About the Role 

The Professor of Allied Health and Active Ageing will be jointly appointed by Southern Adelaide Local Health Network (SALHN) and Caring Futures Institute, Flinders University. This position will play a key role in developing and expanding the rehabilitation, ageing and aged care research program and reputation of both organisations at an international level. It is expected that the position will work effectively with staff and leaders from a range of disciplines.

As a joint position, the incumbent will lead and undertake strategic research aligned to SALHN and Caring Futures Institute. This position will work with the senior leadership teams of the SALHN Rehabilitation, Aged and Palliative Care Services, and the Caring Futures Institute. This senior position will generate a vibrant clinical research culture in the Division of Rehabilitation, Aged and Palliative Care SAHLN that acts as a ‘magnet’ for clinical staff who want to develop their clinical research careers.

The position will provide strategic leadership and vision through building research capacity and capability and increasing research performance within the Caring Futures Institute and SALHN. This position will also support joint research endeavours that (1) respond to the research needs and priorities of the Division of Rehabilitation, Aged and Palliative Care SALHN and the University; (2) will build transdisciplinary research capacity through partnerships with medical staff and allied health disciplines; (3) enable excellence in the nexus between research, teaching, practice, and policy.

The position will also be responsible for engaging with industry, government, and other external organisations, strengthening research collaborations internally and externally and supporting recruitment of international and domestic higher degree research students and research fellowships. In addition, the position will be required to provide leadership and suggest direction to staff of both organisations and Flinders University students in relation to research plans, the development of successful track records in strategic areas of research and the provision of feedback on individual grant applications and publications. 

About You 

You will hold an outstanding research track record and demonstrate substantial and sustained research impact and a proven ability to undertake an active leadership role in research activities across the College, University, local health network, and industry partners. Through relevant experience and leadership, you will also demonstrate an understanding of contemporary allied health, rehabilitation, ageing and aged care practices both in Australia and internationally.

You will have an outstanding and distinguished international research reputation in rehabilitation, ageing and aged care research evidenced by sustained high quality publications with evidenced senior authorship contribution. To be successful in this role you will have a PhD or equivalent in an allied health or a related discipline with demonstrated excellence and leadership in the supervision of higher degree research students, and experience at a leadership level overseeing the functioning of a research-intensive unit.
