THE ROLE

We are looking for an outstanding academic leader at Level E (Professor) with an excellent track record of teaching and research in the discipline of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The appointee will provide leadership and mentorship in the AI discipline within the School of Computing and leverage your international standing to provide a focal point for the further development of the discipline at Macquarie University. You will have a distinguished scholarly research record and a renowned reputation in the field. Your role will ensure research, teaching, and engagement activities within this discipline excel, you will mentor and support staff to develop them and grow their careers. You will demonstrate research excellence, contribute to the development and management of our teaching programs, provide leadership amongst national and international peers, and represent the University at public forums.

You will be joining a growing School of Computing in the Faculty of Science and Engineering with a fast-rising reputation (Top 200 for Computer Science and Information Systems, in 2022 QS World University Rankings by Subject) and substantial new hiring. The School of Computing is currently the home of 42 academic staff and more than 100 research students, and an ever-growing cohort of undergraduates and postgraduate coursework students. Salary and Benefits

  • Full-time, continuing position

  • Salary package: Level E from $194,355 to $203,543 per annum, plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading

Essential Criteria

  • A PhD in Computing or a closely related discipline

  • Demonstrated outstanding contributions to research in artificial intelligence (AI) as evidenced by ongoing publications in top tier journals and conferences, and recognition as an eminent authority in the discipline

  • Demonstrated ability to attract significant and sustained external research funding

  • Proven excellence in teaching and innovative curriculum development at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, in the area of artificial intelligence

  • Demonstrated capacity to make a substantial contribution to all activities of the School, including administration and planning

  • Proven ability to successfully attract and supervise research students

  • Outstanding communication skills in English and proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders
