About This Opportunity 

As a dynamic and strategic research leader, this role is a joint position leading the Queensland node of NBF and a research group at AIBN to conduct high quality translational research in the area of therapeutics plus lead the National Biologics Facility (NBF).

The NBF Queensland node at AIBN is a founding member of the nationally funded research infrastructure which for 15+ years has played a crucial role in supporting researchers and industrial partners with their advanced biomanufacturing needs from supply of industrially relevant cell lines through to bioprocess development and early-phase clinical manufacture of recombinant proteins and vaccines.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Professorial Research Fellow to engage in research that sustains their reputation for outstanding research and international leadership in the therapeutics and biomanufacturing area. At this level the incumbent will make outstanding contributions in service and engagement roles and activities.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Initiate and lead funding initiatives and applications as chief investigator role in applications for significant research funding to support projects and activities, which includes actively seeking, obtaining and managing research funding.

  • Lead significant and strategic research agendas that yield new insights and opportunities to represent and promote the discipline area in leading academic and research forums.

  • Lead a research team, drive individual/team commitment in the pursuit of results and mentor more junior academics and researchers.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 5 years, at Academic level E.

About You  

  • PhD in life sciences and at least 10 years relevant national and international experience across both academic and the commercial biotechnology industry.

  • High level expertise and demonstrated track record in research, discovery and development of biologics with a focus on facilitating transition from discovery into preclinical and then clinical translation to commercial endpoints.

  • Executive level experience within the biotechnology industry including demonstrated technical and leadership skills.
