The Opportunity:

The Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences , is the largest faculty at Monash University and offers the most comprehensive suite of professional health training in Victoria. We consistently rank in the top 40 universities worldwide for clinical, pre-clinical and health sciences.

Within the FMNHS, sits the School of Primary and Allied Health Care with an organisational hub at the Peninsula campus and a presence across other Monash locations. The SPAHC is a leader in primary and allied care research, teaching and service. The School provides high-quality programs at undergraduate and graduate entry levels, specialised professional graduate coursework programs and higher degrees by research. The School currently includes the departments of Paramedicine, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Social Work and Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences.

The Department of Paramedicine provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses to students currently working in or planning employment in out-of-hospital and community-based emergency health settings. The core business of the Paramedicine department is to:

  • Provide education and training services to meet the needs of ambulance services and of private patient transport services in Australia and internationally
  • Provide specialist postgraduate education programs for paramedics from Australia and overseas as well as other health professionals in the field of community-based emergency health
  • Undertake research in the field of community-based emergency health and paramedic practice.

The Department of Paramedicine has access to state-of-the-art teaching simulation facilities and links to research datasets, projects and infrastructure through the National Centre for Healthy Ageing .

We are excited to be recruiting for a Professor/Associate Professor and Head to lead this dynamic and successful department. The role will be held initially for up to 5 years and may be extended for an additional term by mutual agreement. The Head of Department position will be underpinned by a continuing appointment as Professor or Associate Professor.

As Professor/Associate Professor and Head of Department, you will have an outstanding research and teaching record, and a proven capacity for leadership at a senior management level that includes developing and leading strategy, financial management and the management of staff to achieve excellence in education, research and engagement. You will provide academic leadership and have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to shape a collaborative and collegiate culture.

To be considered for this role, you will have demonstrated experience in establishing a strong collegial program of research capable of attracting substantial external funding. You will have demonstrated international leadership in the discipline of paramedicine, with a reputation for being an expert in the field and delivering top-tier research that has a beneficial impact on society. You will demonstrate innovative and inspiring scholarship including supervision of PhD students to high-quality outcomes.
