Position overview
The Production Editor ensures the quality and consistency of copyedited manuscripts, prepares them for layout, checks the accuracy of page proofs and indexes and carries out post-publication checks. They also provide general editorial assistance to the ANU Press Manager, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator and the Publishing/Design Officer.

Selection criteria

  • Degree relevant to the position OR Year 12 and extensive relevant work experience OR equivalent combination of experience and training in copyediting and proofreading.
  • Experience in coordinating the production of print and digital formats, including ebooks (.epub, .mobi etc.), in an academic/trade publishing environment. Familiarity with open-access publishing is desirable.
  • Relevant experience in the editing of scholarly and/or commercial materials, demonstrated experience in applying editorial quality procedures, and a demonstrated ability to operate within defined editorial guidelines. Familiarity with one or more major academic referencing styles (e.g., Chicago, MLA, APA) is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud (Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop) and familiarity with content management systems (e.g., WordPress). Proficiency with Macs is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to display initiative and flexibility, to assess priorities and manage pressing and/or conflicting deadlines, and to work as part of a team.
  • High level of oral communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to liaise with colleagues, senior managers, academic authors, freelance editors, and other stakeholders internal and external to the University.
