The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching Innovation) is responsible for strategic leadership of learning, teaching and innovation, including:
• the development of the University’s courses;
• adoption of advanced learning technologies and other educational innovations to enhance student success;
• supporting University staff to design and deliver contemporary educational programs that reflect the University’s ethos to be student centred and demonstrate a paramount focus on student success;
• the delivery of employability value add experiences and work integrated learning support to students and staff;
• overseeing student as partner opportunities and student learning experience activities, which include orientation, student communications and relevant events; and
• ensuring the effective support for students in relation to academic language, literacy, numeracy, and enabling programs.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching Innovation) portfolio provides staff-focused services which support teaching and course delivery at Flinders University through the provision of information, support and professional development to staff, through promoting creative pedagogy, innovation in the use of educational technologies and through supporting an expansion of fully online course delivery. The portfolio also provides student facing services in relation to academic language, literacy and numeracy, enabling programs, employability and work integrated learning.
In addition to the specific responsibilities encapsulated within the role of the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching Innovation), the portfolio of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) also encompasses academic quality and enhancement, marketing and domestic student recruitment, student administration, and student services. The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching Innovation) will be a key member of the portfolio leadership team of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) and will lead on key initiatives designed to enhance student success, including access and continued participation in education, successful completion and improved outcomes for graduates.

Key Position Responsibilities

  • Build a culture of innovation, excellence, integrity and courage to support learning and teaching that reflects the University’s underlying ethos of being student centred.

  • Strategically lead change and innovation in the design and delivery of high-quality curriculum that produces enterprising graduates (both face-to-face and online).

  • Provide strategic leadership for the University’s fully online courses and non-award courses.

  • Ensure the provision of high quality academic and professional development opportunities which enhance teaching and learning, ensuring the effective use of educational technologies.

  • Foster capacity building across the institution in contemporary pedagogical practices including engaging students as partners.

  • Oversee the identification, selection, implementation and maintenance of university-wide educational technology applications to support the delivery of high-quality teaching and effective student learning.

  • Bring excellent change, people, and financial management skills to the management of the portfolio.

  • Represent the University at relevant local, national and international forums.

  • Participate as a member of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) Portfolio Leadership Team and work proactively with senior staff across the University to advance the University’s priorities in Education.

  • Represent or act for the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students) as required.

  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the position as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

  • A doctoral qualification and recognition as an authority in a field relevant to higher education pedagogy, educational technologies and innovation.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and foster excellence across a large and diverse organisation.

  • Demonstrated ability to achieve large-scale changes, including improvements in teaching quality and educational technology change.

  • Demonstrated experience in contemporary curriculum development.

  • Demonstrated capacity to build productive working relationships across academic, technical and professional fields.

  • Demonstrated capacity to manage both academic and professional staff in a dynamic environment.

  • Demonstrated capacity to lead policy innovation and development.

  • Excellent change management, people management and financial management skills.

  • Aligned with the University’s values, and ethos, with a commitment to social justice, fairness and accessible education.

  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing the management of an enterprise Learning Management System. (Desirable)
