Our school

The School of Engineering  is one of the most research-intensive Schools within the University. The School consists of four discipline groupings: Civil and Environmental Engineering and Surveying; Chemical and Renewable Energy Engineering; Aerospace Systems, Electrical, Computer Systems; Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering. The School is home to many leading-edge research centres and has strong links with industry through sponsored undergraduate students and research collaborations.

The School is highly research active, contributing substantially to the overall research inputs and outputs of the CESE. This is reflected in the 2018 Excellence in Research in Australia outcomes where Electrical, Civil, Mechanical and Resource Engineering codes all received an ERA5. 

Be challenged and imagine with us

The School of Engineering seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a funded project titled ‘Reducing the impact of bacterial biofilm in chronic open wounds.” The successful candidate will contribute to the aim of developing new imaging technologies that identify bacterial penetration into tissue and measure the quality of new tissue, blood perfusion, and vessel development. The desired outcome is a non-invasive portable imaging device that maps healing progress, to be used for clinical monitoring and decision making. 

The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be part of a large multidisciplinary team, consisting of several university industry partners. They will be responsible for:

• Leading the day-to-day operations of the research project and co-supervise the PhD students
• Collaborating effectively within a team setting to enhance existing and future research priorities.
• Fostering collaboration among the University, government, national and international academia, and industry.
• Participating in securing research support from industry and competitive external grants on both national and international scales.

How will you inspire us?

The essential criteria for success include:

• Completed, or recently submitted for review, a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation in electrical or biomedical engineering or a related field.
• Relevant research experience in the design of hardware or software systems for optical imaging.
• Demonstrated record of high-quality contribution to research, including evidence of international and national research collaborations/partnerships
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including an inter-disciplinary way of working, capacity to build relationships and engagement with industry stakeholders.
