About This Opportunity

UQ Transport Group seeks to recruit 2 Postdoctoral Research Fellows/Research Officers in Road Network Operations who will lead research activities for the iMOVE CRC project “Framework and conceptual solution for integrating road network operations planning into real-time traffic management”. This project aims to develop a framework for performance-based, multi-modal network management that can translate directions from various strategies, policies, and plans into dynamic, real-time traffic control operations. The two project objectives are:

Develop a framework to translate the high-level directions into network operating plans that describe the multi-modal and time-of-day operational intent of the road network and form local traffic control plans for real-time operations.

Develop a conceptual solution to operationalise the framework, which includes enabling the creation and management of network operating plans and developing proof-of-concept interfaces and visualization that provide network operations practitioners with real-time information on network performance, gaps against key performance indicators, and recommended operational plans to support better alignment between day-to-day operations and higher-level strategies.

The successful applicants will work as a team with researchers from the Transport Engineering Group within UQ School of Civil Engineering and industry partners from Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).

Key responsibilities will include:

Research

  • Develop a framework and Concept of Operations to translate the high-level directions into network operating plans and into real-time operations through a network management system.

  • Develop a prototype database that digitizes and centralises the network operating plans and strategies from various levels to facilitate information sharing and communication across the planning and operation phases.

  • Develop a prototype user interface and visualisation to support the monitoring and assessment of real-time network performance and the recommendation and selection of control strategies and intervention options.

  • Prepare project reports and presentation materials for project meetings.
