  • Salary Package: Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level A), from $102,501 – $109,852 p.a. or Research Fellow (Level B) $115,787 p.a., plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.

  • Appointment type: Full-time, fixed-term position for 2 years

  • Location: Macquarie University (North Ryde)

About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic researcher to contribute to an exciting new project in the broad applied AI space. The goal of the project is to develop and study a personalised coaching platform that can help individuals develop skills needed for improved decision-making and support them in achieving their goals faster and more effectively. The research will be conducted as part of a long-term research partnership with a multi-national industry collaborator that will be actively involved in the research activities. You will be working with a cross-disciplinary group of highly experienced researchers at the Centre for Health Informatics and the School of Computer Science at Macquarie University, as well as collaborating with the industry partner and other research groups.

About You

You will bring your knowledge of human-centric AI technologies and expertise in quantitative user research to the team and help us address real-world problems. Ideally, you will have the passion to mixed-methods user research, with experience in using modern AI methods in real-world applications and working in a collaborative setting. You will be a good communicator, enthusiastic researcher, team player, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. We are looking both for academic rigour and quality research outputs, as well as practical analytical skills, proven problem-solving experience, and ability to interact with diverse stakeholders.

Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technologies, or a closely related area.

  • Proven experience in AI, HCI, or Data Science, with demonstrable analytical skills.

  • Excellent research record evidenced by publications in selective journals and conferences.

  • Proven experience in conducting user research, in the context of practical AI applications.

  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to contribute to collaborative research team.

Desirable

  • Publications in top-tier AI/HCI conferences, such as IJCAI, CHI, WSDM, IUI, UbiComp, etc.

  • Experience in preparing research proposals and securing research/industry funding.

  • Experience in supervising Honours and high-degree research students.
