PRIMARY DETAIL

We are seeking talented, enthusiastic researchers, with strong health services/health informatics research skills to participate in an exciting program of research funded by an MRFF grant relating to quality measurement and evaluation in aged care.

THE ROLE

  • Salary Package: Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Level A) base salary $97,620 – $104,621 or Research Fellow (Level B) base salary $110,273 – $130,471 plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading (Pro-rata rates apply for part-time appointments)

  • Appointment type: Full-time or part-time, fixed-term position for 2 years (with the possibility of extension)

  • Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

About the Role

The Centre has been awarded an MRFF grant in collaboration with multiple partner organisations to develop and test the Australian Consortium for Aged Care - Quality Measurement Toolbox (ACAC-QMET). The toolbox is aimed to improve the measurement and evaluation of quality of care in residential aged care sector. The project partners include Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA) at South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute, The University of Queensland, Flinders University, University of New South Wales, and several other non-academic partner organisations.

The successful candidates will be required to:

  • Develop in-depth project analysis plan, and conduct and oversee analysis, develop analytical and visualisation plans, interpret results, and coordinate the development of study outputs.

  • Undertake research to examine the feasibility and measurement properties of the ACAC-QMET quality measurement indicators using routinely collected aged care provider data.

  • Participate in the review of literature and preparation of research manuscripts, presentations, and reports. 

  • Engage with project partner organisations and other researchers

About You

We are seeking a talented enthusiastic health researcher to participate in an exciting program of research relating to measurement and evaluation of quality of care in residential aged care. The role will involve close liaison with a wide range of research partners, both internal and external to the university. 

The successful applicants will be interested in working in a multi-disciplinary team and engaging with a broad range of stakeholders. They will be able to work independently and demonstrate the capacity for critical thinking about research questions.

The Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research, one of the core research centres within AIHI, has a multi-stream program of research which focuses on investigating the outcomes and safety of health services. The Centre has particular expertise in assessing the impact of information technologies and investigating the role of electronic health records and decision support in supporting improved health care delivery and health outcomes. The Centre’s research team is multi-disciplinary and applies a broad range of research techniques, from RCT designs to direct observations of clinical work.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Essential criteria :

  • A PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., epidemiology, health services research, health informatics, pharmacy, public health)

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in conducting health measurement studies (e.g., examining the psychometric properties and responsiveness of a health instrument).  

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in data processing and statistical analyses of health datasets including experience with statistical software packages such as SAS, Stata, Python, and/or R.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with all levels of staff, students, management, health care providers and recipients, and external stakeholders.

  • Good knowledge of the Australian aged and/or health care system

  • Publication track record in refereed journals

Desirable criteria :

  • Demonstrable skills in the design and execution of health care evaluation/intervention studies.

A dditional criteria for Research Fellow (Level B) applicants :

  • Demonstrable skills in advanced statistical modelling (e.g., generalised mixed-effects modelling).

  • Experience in managing and leading research projects

  • Experience using and analysing a range of different types of linked health datasets

Desirable criteria :

  • Mixed methods research experience.

  • Experience in the aged care sector.
