About This Opportunity  

This postdoctoral position will involve the generation, genetic manipulation, reporter gene creatrion and insertion, as well as the differentiation into bespoke cell and organoid models for clients of the UQ-node of the Phenomics Australia initiative TANCR. The researcher will supervise a part-time research assistant in this role and will be expected to facilitate training of external researchers in human stem cell culture and differentiation. The position will also involve liaising with the other Phenomics Australia nodes and managing and expanding interactions with stakeholders, management and prospective clients.

Key responsibilities include:

Research

  • Produces quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in high quality outlets.

  • Contribute to progressing towards transfer of knowledge, technology, and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialisation of UQ intellectual property.

  • Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

  • Generation and characterization of hIPSC lines from blood or fibroblast samples.

  • CRISPR-based genome editing and genetic modification of hIPSC lines to create isogenic controls or reporter lines.

  • Creation of bespoke hIPSC-derived organoid models.

Service and Engagement

  • Managing client relationships, and the provision of training for clients.

  • Supervise the research assistant that is part of the team of the UQ-node of the TANCR Phenomics Australia initiative.

  • Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).

  • Demonstrate personal effectiveness in supervision and the management of researcher development.

  • As appropriate, manage research support staff effectively throughout the employee lifecycle in accordance with University policy and procedures.

Citizenship and Service

  • Demonstrate citizenship behaviours that align to the UQ values.

  • Shows leadership of self through collaboration and active participation in priority activities for the unit.

  • Begin to develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

About You

  • PhD and expertise in one or more of the following areas - Human stem cell biology (pluripotent, iPSC);

  • Advanced molecular biology skills;

  • CRISPR genome engineering;

  • An ability to establish effective relationships and to represent and promote academic discipline at a university and wider community level, including industry, government and professional bodies;

  • Strong motivation with the ability to work independently and design / interpret experiments, with excellent organisational skills;

  • Highly developed team work and communication skills including excellent written and interpersonal skills.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience with robotics and automation

  • Demonstrated experience with organoid engineering and/or deep understanding of developmental processes;

  • Demonstrated experience with service role or industry.


What We Can Offer  

This is a Full-time, fixed term position for up to 18 months at Academic Level A.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $72,144.35 - $96,530.67 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $84,408.89 - 112,940.88 per annum.
