About This Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to optimise in situ Sr-isotope analysis on a variety of magmatic minerals via laser ablation multi-collector ICP-MS to investigate magmatic processes leading to accumulation of critical minerals.

About You

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in Earth Sciences, with demonstrated expertise in geochemistry, and the ability to work independently preparing and analysing samples and interpreting geochemical data.

  • Sound knowledge and understanding of igneous geochemistry research, with the ability to prepare and analyse geological samples and process geochemical data.

  • Interest in high-resolution geochemistry of magmatic minerals and willingness to develop geochemical protocols for isotope analysis via LA-MC-ICP-MS.

  • Experience in in-situ geochemical analysis, data reduction and interpretation.

  • Experience in laser ablation mass spectrometry and in the use of computer applications in geochemistry, and particularly laser ablation mass spectrometry data reduction (e.g., Iolite) is highly desirable.

  • Experience in multi-collector mass spectrometry (MC-ICP-MS) is desirable.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience in publication of scientific papers.

  • Ability to work both collaboratively with colleagues as part of a research team and work independently to prioritise and meet deadlines.

  • An emerging profile in research in the discipline area.

  • Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.


What We Can Offer 

This is a full-time, fixed-term position for up to 12 months at Academic Level A, with a possibility of extension upon funding availability.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $72,144.35 to $96,530.67 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be in the range $84,408.89 to $112,940.88 per annum.
