Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Aquatic Nitrogen Cycling and Nitrous Oxide Emissions

Updated: over 2 years ago
Location: Australia,
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to several Australian Research Council (ARC) funded aquatic greenhouse gas projects. Working on carbon and nitrogen cycling, including surface-groundwater interactions, in tidal wetlands, estuaries and inland waters, the projects will use a combination of continuous in situ Picarro and Los Gatos concentration and stable isotope measurements, floating chamber flux measurements, benthic process measurements, groundwater measurements and advanced numerical modelling across a range of tidal wetland habitats and inland waters.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate  will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including groundwater hydrologists, biogeochemical modellers and coastal managers. The broad objective of our work is to make estimates of, and better understand the factors controlling, GHG emissions from aquatic systems under global change. We are also interested in how to better management these systems to enhance their carbon (e.g. burial) and nitrogen (e.g. denitrification vs anammox) removal capacity (Nature Based Solutions) while reducing associated GHG emissions. This position will focus on the nitrogen cycling and nitrous oxide emission components of the project.

The remuneration package for this position is up to $105,431 - $112,9922 per annum (inclusive of base salary $90,112 - $96,574 per annum and 17% employer's contribution to superannuation). It's a 3 year position.

This role is based in Lismore, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Our region offers the best of an Australian lifestyle with spectacular beaches, World Heritage rainforests and a vibrant regional hub.

Preferred start date April to July 2022.
