About This Opportunity 

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a largely impactful project, E-DENGUE , which is funded by the UK Wellcome Trust Fund and being led by the School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine.

E-DENGUE is a digital prediction tool, degined to reduce dengue incidence and outbreaks in the Mekong Delta Region of Vietnam. We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work across the technical themes of the project, focusing on the interventional study to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of E-DENGUE.

The project will involve three phases: i) prediction model development and validation; ii) Software and mobile App development; and ii) effectiveness and cost-effectiveness evaluation. The position is based at the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia), with research fieldwork with collaborating researchers at the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) and Pasteur Institute (PI) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The ideal candidate will have experience in health intervention studies, with a strong track record of productivity during their PhD.

Key responsibilities will include: 

• Coordinate and implement a Cluster-based Randomized Control Trial study to evaluate the effectiveness/cost-effectiveness of E-DENGUE, a digital dengue prediction tool, in reducing dengue incidence and outbreaks.

• Provide technical support to conduct Needs Assessment which assess the needs for integrating the E-DENGUE into dengue surveillance and prevention.

• Produces quality research outputs consistent with discipline norms by publishing or exhibiting in high quality outlets.

• Participate in applications for competitive research funding to support projects and activities.

• Work with colleagues in the development of joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.

• Contribute to progressing towards transfer of knowledge, technology, and practices to research end users through translation, including commercialization of UQ intellectual property.

• Develop a coherent research program and an emerging research profile.

• Review and draw upon best practice research methodologies.

This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position through until December 2027. At Academic level A, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $75,808.68 - $100,926.59, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $88,696.16 - $118,084.11 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  

• We are seeking a bilingual candidate who is fluent in English and Vietnamese.

• Completion or near completion of a PhD in the discipline areas of public health, environmental health sciences, epidemiology, or other relevant disciplines.

• Demonstrated experience with community-based health interventions and assessment, preferable experience in public health interventions in South of Vietnam.

• Demonstrated experience and skills in epidemiologic research methods and applied statistics in health studies, particularly in health interventional studies.

• Demonstrated experience in coordinating and implementing research fieldwork and health interventional activities in residential communities in South of Vietnam.

• Demonstrated ability to think analytically and critically as well as to synthesize relevant data and write-up reports, grants, and publications.

• An emerging profile in research in the discipline areas of public health, environmental health sciences, epidemiology, or other relevant disciplines.

• Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

• Evidence of contributions towards successfully obtaining external research funding.

• Some experience in meaningful internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.

• Have demonstrated to understand the culture and residential lifestyle in South of Vietnam, particularly in the Mekong Delta Region.
