(Level A) $89,610 - $96,007 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.
A fixed-term position, offered for a period of 3 years, commencing at a mutually agreeable time. Any extension beyond the 3 years would be contingent on future funding, which cannot be guaranteed at this time.
The University of Adelaide High Energy Physics group has an available position for a postdoctoral research associate to work on the GAMBIT project for a period of 3 years commencing in 2022. The research associate will be jointly supported by the ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics and the Pawsey Centre for Extreme scale Readiness (https://pawsey.org.au/pacer/ ).
GAMBIT – the Global and Modular Beyond-the-Standard-Model Inference Tool – is an open-source software code for performing global fits of new physics models. The position will involve working on optimising the GAMBIT code, whilst also leading studies that apply the tool to topics in dark matter physics. We are thus seeking a phenomenologist in particle physics or particle astrophysics with very strong computing skills. A deep knowledge of C++, Python and/or FORTRAN would be advantageous. Through the ARC Centre of Excellence for Dark Matter Particle Physics and the GAMBIT collaboration, there will be opportunities to work extensively with national and international researchers in collider and dark matter physics. The Pawsey Centre for Extreme scale Readiness provides access to an outstanding national team of high performance computing experts who will assist with code optimisation work.
The School of Physical Sciences at the University of Adelaide hosts strong groups in high energy physics working on the ATLAS, Belle II, CTA, HESS, IceCube, LIGO, Pierre Auger and SABRE experiments. Close collaboration between theorists and experimentalists is actively encouraged within our group.

- Very good verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, organisational and time management skills.
- Advanced analytical and computational skills, including familiarity with Python, C++ and/or FORTRAN.
- A background in code optimisation, or a strong desire to learn.
- Optional: existing knowledge of the GAMBIT code would be useful, but is not an essential requirement.
