Fixed-term position available for 3 years

The Centre for Energy Technology is seeking to appoint a talented postdoctoral researcher, as part of our future fuels team, to play a leading role in the evaluation of domestic, commercial and industrial gas appliances operating with renewable future fuels.

This is an opportunity to be part of the Future Fuels Cooperative Research Centre that brings together over 80 member companies of the Australian Pipelines and Gas Association (APGA), Energy Networks Australia (ENA) and the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association of Australia (GAMAA) plus five State Government regulators and six universities in research to enable the decarbonisation of Australia’s energy networks.

Based in the School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials at The University of Adelaide, you will be expected to develop and deliver an innovative experimental program, working collaboratively with industry and other researchers, aimed at securing Australia’s renewable energy future. This work will provide an opportunity to conduct pilot-scale research at industrial sites.

In this program you will design and contribute to experimental research aimed at better understanding changes in the performance of domestic and industrial-scale combustion appliances as a consequence of the addition of hydrogen and other low-carbon fuels. Your work will contribute to fast-tracking and de-risking pilot and demonstration projects in Australia and globally to decarbonise the provision of gaseous fuel to domestic and industrial customers.

To be successful you will need:

  • A PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • An ability to undertake experimental research in combustion or a closely related research area.
  • Knowledge of mathematical and computational modelling approaches used for reactive systems.
  • Well-developed communication skills and an ability to prepare high quality scientific publications and to present engagingly to different audiences.
  • Commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion, and an ability to contribute to the diversity of the School community.
