About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Data Science of Complex Systems. The successful applicant will be working under the supervision of Professor Eduardo G. Altmann in the in the intersection between the areas of Complex Systems and Data Science. The goal is to use mathematical models of complex systems and large datasets to develop new computational methods and to obtain new insights on problems of scientific and societal relevance. Areas of interest include complex networks, dynamical systems, time-series analysis, statistical inference using Monte Carlo methods, social-media data and models, mathematical epidemiology, science of science, and mathematical methods in computational social sciences.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake research in Complex Systems and Data Science

  • publication of research papers

  • demonstrate research excellence

  • assist with grant writing and publishing original work

  • support teaching activities and the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Postdoctoral Research Associate in Data Science of Complex Systems who has:

  • a PhD (or near completion) in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or related field

  • Coding and computational skills for data-analysis skills

  • demonstrated ability to conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision

  • the ability and a willingness to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to contribute to long-term research goals

  • excellent communication (written and verbal), organisational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • a strong track record of publishing their research.
