  • Full time, 12 months fixed term position. Located at the Charles Perkins Centre on the Camperdown Campus

  • Opportunity to conduct research across the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Medicine and Health

  • Base Salary Level A, $101,507 - $112,462 p.a. + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) and the School of Medical Sciences (SOMS) are welcoming applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Biomaterial and Stem Cell Interactions to join the team and explore how biomaterials with varying physical and mechanical properties drive the phenotypic and functional responses of regenerative stem cells.

The successful candidate will be working across two groups under the joint supervision of Dr Giselle Yeo (SOLES) and A/Prof Khoon Lim (SOMS). Both groups are located in the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney, a multidisciplinary research centre which aims to generate innovative solutions to combat global health challenges. The candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team with strengths in biomaterial fabrication and stem cell biology, and help drive new research on the functional interplay between biomaterial properties and stem cell behaviour.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • perform research, both independently and as part of a team, to characterise stem cell functions in response to novel biomaterials

  • drive and contribute to original research, review papers, and conference presentations

  • participate in regular project meetings with supervisors and research teams

  • support the training and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate research students

  • support general laboratory operations, including managing inventories and addressing WHS requirements.

  • a strong track record of publishing research in high-impact journals

  • demonstrated proficiency in cell and molecular techniques, including: stem cell culture (including mesenchymal stromal cells), functional differentiation assays, proteomic analysis (including secretome analysis), small animal studies, flow cytometry, quantitative RT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence and confocal microscopy

  • demonstrated ability to drive and conduct research efficiently and independently

  • ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to contribute to long-term research goals

  • experience in, or willingness to train research students.
