Location: Brownlow Hill, NEW SOUTH WALES
Job Type: FullTime

  • Full time, 3 years fixed term. Located on the Camden and Camperdown Campus at the School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES)

  • Opportunity to join a cutting-edge research team at the forefront of poultry nutrition, collaborating with the prestigious Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney

  • Base Salary, Level A $105,350 - $112,462 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) is currently seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Avian Nutritional Biology to work on a project examining optimization of protein and energy sources in chicken feed for growth and welfare. This project is a collaboration between ‘Camden Poultry Research Unit’ and the Charles Perkins Centre. There is considerable interest regarding the interaction between protein quality and staple energy sources for both animal production and human health.

This project will test associations between different protein and amino acid sources with staple grains for growth performance in broiler chickens. Using multi-omic platforms and isotopic tracers we will characterize the mechanistic interactions between diet formulation, nutrient absorption, and microbiome response that impact chicken growth performance.

The position also offers the unique advantage of conducting interdisciplinary research alongside world-class scientists and influential industry partners, fostering unparalleled growth and innovation in the field.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • work with the Camden and CPC-based teams to lead the analytical components of the study

  • liaise with the Camden-based team for growth experiments in the chicken facility

  • perform experiments to collect the nutritional and metabolic data on chicken performance

  • perform the experiments to characterize the avian microbiome

  • integrate analysis of feed conversion efficiency, growth metabolism, microbiome and welfare

  • take a lead role in the production of manuscripts and reports

  • contribute to the supervision of graduate research students as directed.
