About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow to work under the supervision of Professor Luciano Gonzalez . The successful candidate will take a leading role as a researcher in the field of greenhouse gas emissions from beef cattle production systems across Australia. The project focuses on supplementing grazing cattle and quantifying GHG fluxes and stocks using a combination of simulation modelling, sensor technologies and on-ground measurements. The candidate will be based on the Camden campus, with the other part of the trial in commercial farms across the country. Opportunities exist to work on other projects related to animal health and welfare, feedlot production and Precision Livestock Farming.
The position is full-time fixed term for 2 years commencing at Level A or B depending on experience with possible extension subject to performance and availability of funds.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
undertake research in greenhouse gases fluxes from beef cattle production systems including the management of field trials
publish research papers
demonstrate research excellence
assist with grant writing and publishing original work
support teaching activities and the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
develop research collaborations leading to commercialisation, improved policy or practice
assist with grant writing and publishing original work
contribute to successful applications for competitive research grants and/ or funding to deliver research impact
develop profile through conferences and seminars
enhance relationships with outputs such as research and development, commercialisation, improved practices, and policy development.
The School of Life and Environmental Sciences (SOLES) brings together researchers in the life, earth, and environmental sciences to improve teaching and build new infrastructure to support and enhance capacity in research and teaching. It is a large School divided into three Research and Teaching Themes.

About you

a PhD (or near completion) in in Agriculture, Animal Science, Veterinary Science or a closely-related field
proven research excellence in this area of greenhouse emissions from ruminants and modelling livestock production systems
demonstrated experience with field experimentation and livestock handling
demonstrated skills to analyze large and complex datasets and develop prediction models using programing and statistical software such as R, SAS, or Matlab
a strong track record of publishing their research
the ability and a willingness to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams to contribute to long-term research goals
excellent communication (written and verbal), organisational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
the ability to supervise students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
experience in research record keeping, preparation of research papers and presentation of seminars
demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications skills, interacting with a variety of researchers and stakeholders.
a vaccination for Q fever and a class A driver licence are required.
The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and knowledge.
