The Position
This is a key role in a friendly, motivated team undertaking independent research in the area of Southern Ocean Dynamics. The role with focus on using numerical models and ocean observations to advance understanding of the circulation of the Southern Ocean and its role in the climate system. Areas of particular interest include mechanisms of heat exchange across the Antarctic continental shelf break and their sensitivity to change; investigation of the mechanisms responsible for variability and change in the abyssal ocean; the dynamics of major Southern Ocean current systems, including the Southern Ocean overturning circulation, the Antarctic Circumpolar Current and subpolar gyres; and improving understanding and simulations of Antarctic ice shelf – ocean interactions. Candidates with a strong research profile in dynamical oceanography and experience in numerical modelling are encouraged to apply.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be a member of the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES). The Person
We are looking for an early career researcher with a PhD (or awarding of a PhD within six months of appointment) in the field of physical oceanography or a related area, and have the ability to articulate and prosecute innovate research. Your ability to lead by example, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, will enable you to foster respectful and productive working relationships with staff, students and colleagues at all levels within RSES in line with the RSES Culture Statement .
