The Position

The Postdoctoral Fellow position forms an integral part of a team to work on an exciting Australian Research Council (ARC) Georgina Sweet Australian Laureate Fellowship program- “Nanoscale-interactions making future functional materials more powerful”, recently awarded to Professor Yun Liu (Web: https://researchers.anu.edu.au/researchers/liu-y ). The project aims to develop new model that adapts the structural and chemical information at different length scales into traditional crystallography, allowing to build a precise chemistry-structure-property relation of functional materials, more generally all solid-state materials. The research outcomes are expected to revolutionise the material science and facilitate future materials design and development. It is expected that the selected candidate will collaboratively work together with people in crystallography, materials chemists and physicists, electron microscopists, computational scientists, including experts in machine learning and Al.

The Position is one year with possibility of extension up to three years.

The Person

To excel in this role you will have:

  • A PhD in solid-state chemistry, materials chemistry, applied mathematics and applied physics, or equivalent qualifications and experience in a related area, with a track record of independent research in the fields of comprehensive crystallography, fundamental crystal chemistry, materials Chemistry and materials physics, applied mathematics, materials computation as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Demonstrated research experience in
  • Characterising and analysing comprehensive crystal structure of solid-state, inorganic materials and/or;
  • Local crystal structural analysis of solids
  • Essential knowledge on X-ray crystallography, including Rietveld refinement.
  • Experience in the research in some or all of the following areas would be an advantage but is not essential:
  • Functional Materials - Ferroelectrics/piezoelectric and relaxor dielectrics;
  • Computation Materials - Monte Carol simulation, pair distribution function;
  • Electron diffraction and HRTEM image
  • Demonstrated collaborative capability and excellent communication skills to work across-discipline
