PRIMARY DETAIL

The Biomechanics, Physical Performance, and Exercise Research Group is seeking a researcher to assist with a project to investigate the physical and cognitive load in shipboard firefighters in a Defence context. This is a parental leave backfill position for 12-months fixed term.

THE ROLE

  • Salary Package: From $81,581 - $109,852 p.a., plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading

  • Appointment Type: Full-time, Fixed term for 12 months (parental leave cover)

  • Location: Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde)

The Role

A unique opportunity exists for an early career researcher to contribute to research in the Biomechanics, Physical Performance, and Exercise Research Group (BioPPEx) at Macquarie University. This position will have a key role working on a US Defence-funded project to understand the physical and cognitive demands of being a shipboard firefighter.

The role will be based at the Macquarie University, North Ryde campus, and will involve:

  • Coordinating researchers within MQ and overseas institutions and stakeholders

  • Leading laboratory-based research projects

  • Assisting with the supervision of HDR students

  • Actively participating in external research projects, including producing publications

  • Day-to-day assistance with managing the research project under direction from the investigator team

  • The possibility exists to participate in teaching activities at Macquarie University

About You

You will be close to completing, or have completed, a PhD in biomechanics, or a closely related field of exercise and sports science. You will be innovative in a research environment and be able to find ways to combine a range of technologies in a coherent way and enjoy driving innovation. You will enjoy the challenge of working on unique projects and being a leader. You will be able to work independently and collaboratively on research programs and may have experience with supervising Higher Degree Research students and/or research assistants undertaking sport and exercise research projects.

Selection Criteria
To be considered for this position you must respond in a statement (maximum 2 pages) addressing the selection criteria and upload this as a separate document in the application process.

Essential

  • A PhD (or close to finishing) in a relevant discipline of biomechanics, sport/exercise science or similar

  • Demonstrated experience with laboratory- and field-based research data collection

  • Demonstrated research outcomes, journal articles, conference presentations, or the like, in biomechanics and/or sport/exercise science

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and, both independently with limited supervision and under direction, across scientific disciplines
