Post-doctoral Research Fellow

• Opportunity in the University of Sydney Voice Research Laboratory to work on 3 fully funded projects: A 15 year retrospective file audit of SLP assessment of treatment of voice disorders; development of a new laryngeal disorders database; and a clinical trial in vocal rehabilitation post phono-surgery.

• Located in Faculty of Medicine and Health, Camperdown Campus

• Full-time fixed term for 3 years with base salary $118,390 p.a plus 17% superannuation

The Faculty of Medicine and Health is the largest health faculty in Australia, consisting of seven schools, five research themes (plus 3 cross-cutting themes), and four research centres. We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level B) to work as part of a well-established research team in the Dr Liang Voice Program, with ongoing collaboration with a range of international research partners. The successful applicant will be a qualified Speech –Language Pathologist (SLP) primarily based in the Voice Research Laboratory at the University of Sydney working directly with A/Prof Cate Madill and A/Prof Daniel Novakovic. The successful applicant will be expected to demonstrate strong leadership, commitment, and initiative, as well as excellent writing and analytical skills, a strong knowledge of human voice anatomy, physiology, voice disorder, assessment and treatment, and experience of conducting survey-based and clinical research. Other essential criteria include the capacity to successfully meet deadlines and work effectively as part of a collaborative team. Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with patients with voice disorders and a PhD in assessment and/or treatment of voice disorders.

Your responsibilities will be:

• Analyse and publish data from a large clinical SLP data-base (year 1)

• conduct a Delphi process to establish what data should be collected to create a national laryngeal disorders database in ENT/SLP.(year 2)

• collaborate and advise with the DLVP team, external contractors and other stakeholders to build and establish a laryngeal data base in ENT/SLP.(year2-3)

• conduct a clinical research project based across multiple sites to investigate the outcomes of a voice rehabilitation program post phono-surgery.  (year 3)

• support other research activities in the program including AI for the early detection of voice disorder, development and implementation of an international consensus case history questionnaire

• apply for internal, external and Category 1 grants

• assist with the supervision of PhD and honours students

• present the outcomes of this work at national and international conferences and publish in relevant quality journals

• have the opportunity to maintain clinical skills in voice assessment via participation in monthly interdisciplinary voice assessment clinics

• contribute to, and participate in, the delivery of the DLVP continuing Education program and University of Sydney SLP voice disorders curriculum.
   

About you:

• Relevant SLP tertiary qualifications, including a PhD in a relevant area such as voice disorders, voice assessment and treatment of voice disorders

• an understanding of human laryngeal anatomy and physiology, voice disorders (essential) and voice disorder assessment and treatment (desirable)

• experience in conducting surveys and interviews for the formulation of clinical models and/or pathways

• data analysis methods pertinent to survey and clinical research

• excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain effective collaborative working relationships

• excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills

• demonstrated ability to manage workflows, multiple complex projects and meet deadlines

• experience in collecting voice assessment and treatment outcomes is desirable

• experience in successful grant funding applications.
