About the opportunity:

Join us on an extraordinary journey of innovation and impact. We are in search of a dynamic and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to become an integral part of a collaborative project with the Defence Science and Technology Group, Department of Defence.

In this exciting opportunity, you will be at the forefront of an innovative product development project, where our focus is to enhance the fit, form and function of body armour systems for the Defence force.

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will have a pivotal role in driving the project forward, as well as contributing to the research goals and culture within the Applied Biomechanics research theme, UCRISE. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving research with a focus on women's health and biomechanics, particularly in the context of body armour design, development and evaluation.
  • Collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team of experts within academia and industry, including biomechanists, ergonomists, and industrial designers.
  • Supporting designers working on innovative solutions.
  • Undertaking human factors evaluations of body armour systems
  • Supporting real-time collaboration between academia and industry, ensuring that research findings translate into practical solutions for our defence.
  • Driving existing research aligned with research strengths and strategies of Applied biomechanics (e.g., women’s health and performance biomechanics; women in sport)

The ideal candidate for this position should possess:

  • A Ph.D. in a relevant field, with a background or strong interest in women's health, biomechanics, or women in sport
  • Experience in conducting research that addresses the unique challenges and needs of women, particularly in the context of body armour design
  • Strong analytical and research skills, with a track record of high-quality research outputs
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience working with three-dimensional scans and statistical shape modelling in computer aided design environments (highly desirable).
