About the Role

The post-doctoral research position, funded by the ARC Centre of Excellence in Quantum Biotechnology, focuses on developing novel microscopy techniques for intracellular biology. Situated within the Laboratory for Cellular Biophysics group led by A/Prof Elizabeth Hinde, the role offers opportunities for career mentorship and collaboration with a diverse team of researchers and students specialising in live cell microscopy methods.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Contribute towards the research effort of the team and to develop your research expertise with an increasing degree of autonomy.
  • In collaboration with Senior Academic staff conduct internationally competitive research, resulting in publications in high impact journals
  • Contribute to and publish academic papers and other scholarly outputs to a high academic standard in accordance with the research expectations of the University of Melbourne
  • Actively participate in research seminars and conferences to disseminate research findings in their area of expertise as opportunities arise
  • Contribute to the preparation, or where appropriate individual preparation of research proposal submissions to internal or external funding bodies as relevant.

Who We Are Looking For

You will possess excellent collaborative skills, able to thrive in diverse research teams, and effectively engage with individuals from various backgrounds. Moreover, a strong demonstration of both the capability and enthusiasm to cultivate an academic research career path is essential.

You will also have:

  • Completion of a PhD in physics or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in experimental optical physics (e.g., building microscopes), and image data analysis (e.g., in Matlab).
  • A demonstrated aptitude for independent research, with a sound publication record in relevant areas, commensurate with experience and opportunities.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare research reports and manuscripts for publication

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
