Overview
Physical Health and Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention Post-doctorate Research Fellow
An exciting opportunity exists for post-doctoral researchers to help drive Physical Health and Musculoskeletal Injury prevention epidemiology for the Australian Defence Force (ADF) as part of a research partnership between ECU and the Joint Health Command (JHC), Department of Defence.
Military service is an inherently physically demanding occupation and musculoskeletal injuries have a high burden within the ADF. Musculoskeletal injuries affect readiness, cost training time and may result in medical separations from service. Understanding the burden of these injuries and undertaking preventative health actions to reduce their prevalence within the ADF is essential to improve the health of the force. Research to understand and reduce the burden of musculoskeletal injuries on the ADF is a strategic priority to continually improve health support for ADF members. The Directorate of Health Research within Joint Health Command has developed a Defence Health Research Framework 2021-2025, which articulates the research themes Defence will focus on to preserving and optimising the health of members across their life course. Musculoskeletal injuries are a key strategic research priority within the Defence Health Research Framework.
The Position
In partnership with the Directorate of Health Research within JHC, Edith Cowan University (ECU) is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced post-doctoral health researcher to undertake population-based research into physical health and musculoskeletal injury prevention within the ADF. The research will aim to support the long-term development of a comprehensive and relevant evidence base for physical and musculoskeletal health within ADF.
The position will be based with the Directorate of Health Research, Campbell Park Offices, Canberra, with a regular requirement to travel to ECU Joondalup campus.
Seeking applicant that can demonstrate the following:
- PhD or other post graduate qualification in epidemiology, biostatistics or health data systems.
- A demonstrated track record in Physical Health or Musculoskeletal Injury prevention epidemiology.
- Ability to conduct research and development on the assigned project(s) with minimum supervision either as a member of a team or, where appropriate, independently.
- Demonstrated track-record of producing and communicating high-quality scientific reports, presentations, and visualisations for a wide range of purposes.
- Highly developed time management skills.
- Ability to guide a program of work to inform the design and analysis of health surveillance data systems.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and work with a range of stakeholders.
You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence and Courage.
