Overview
Epidemiology Post-doctorate Research Fellow
An exciting opportunity exists for a post-doctoral researcher to help drive epidemiological research for the Department of Defence as part of a research partnership between ECU and Joint Health Command (JHC), Department of Defence.
The Directorate of Health Research within JHC has developed a Defence Health Research Framework 2021-2025, which articulates the research themes Defence will focus on to preserving and optimising the health of members across their life course. Measuring and monitoring the Health of the Force is a key strategic research priority within the Defence Health Research Framework as it would inform healthcare service delivery and healthcare promotion activities aimed at maintaining Defence capability.
In light of the rapidly evolving era of digital health, the Health Information Office (HIO) was established in September 2019 to provide a new Health System Insights Capability in JHC. The HIO uses data from the Defence-electronic Health System, as well as other sources, to provide the Surgeon General of the Australian Defence Force, commanders, and clinicians with insights from the health domain to optimise healthcare delivery for Australian Defence Force members.
As part of the implementation of the HIO mission, regular monitoring and surveillance of the Health of the Force has been identified as a strategic priority. HIO is developing a methodological approach to annually report on key health indicators that impact on Force readiness and well-being. This report will provide Defence leadership with insights to enhance awareness and understanding of Force health.
The Position
In partnership with the Directorate of Health Research and the Health Information Office at JHC, Edith Cowan University (ECU) is seeking a suitably qualified post-doctoral epidemiology researcher to undertake a population-based program of work, focussing on surveillance systems. The position will be based with the Directorate of Health Research, in partnership with the Health Information Office, Campbell Park Offices, Canberra, with a regular requirement to travel to ECU Joondalup campus.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the following:
- PhD or other post graduate qualification in epidemiology, biostatistics or health data systems.
- Ability to conduct rigorous epidemiological research on the assigned project(s) with minimum supervision either as a member of a team or, where appropriate, independently.
- Demonstrated track-record of producing and communicating high-quality scientific reports, presentations, and visualisations for a wide range of purposes.
- Highly developed time management skills.
- Ability to guide a program of work to inform the design and analysis of health surveillance data systems.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and work with a range of stakeholders.
You will also demonstrate personal attributes that are congruent with the University’s values of Integrity, Respect, Rational Inquiry, Personal Excellence and Courage.
