About - Mindful – centre for training and research in developmental health

Mindful – centre for training and research in developmental health is funded by the Victorian Department of Health and Human Services and auspiced by the University of Melbourne. It provides professional development training to the child development industry, including one- and two-year courses enrolling hundreds of students annually.

Mindful is the lead agency for the early intervention studies associated with the Tuning in to Kids® suite of program, and the evaluation of these programs is the key component of Mindful research activities, including the supervision of Masters and PhD students.

Tuning in Online Programs (TOP) acknowledges the support of the Victorian Government.

About the Role

TOP is a new state-wide online parenting program for Victorian parents and carers of children aged 0-11 years of age. The successful applicant will deliver level 2 of the program, providing follow-up phone calls to parents who are completing or have completed TOP Lite (the self-paced online program content) and who have a culturally or linguistically diverse (CALD) background.

The phone worker will typically make one call to parents who have requested support in applying the online parenting material in TOP Lite in their family context. The phone worker will assess if the parent then wants or needs referral on to the TOP Group (Level 3) or to another agency. Some families may require more than one phone call. The focus for this role is culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide phone support calls to parent/carers to assist them to apply TOP Lite materials with their infants or children
  • Understand parent/carers’ challenges with parenting and determine their needs
  • Provide parent/carers with relevant resources and/or referrals as required, including supported referrals
  • Actively participate in supervision and training both at team and individual levels


About You
You will bring your excellent interpersonal skills, over the phone and in person. We will be able to talk with families using an emotion-focused approach.

You will also have:

  • Qualifications in social or community services; health or mental health; early childhood. Possible qualifications:  
    • Certificate III, Certificate IV or Diploma  
    • Graduates or post-graduate students in Maternal Child Health, Early Childhood, Social Work, Community Services, Allied Health or Nursing  
  • Experience with working with parents and carers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds on their parenting
