Background

The Geriatric Oncology Regional Victorian Trials Alliance, Linkages, Special populations, Equity program (GO ReViTALISE) initiative is part of a five-year state-wide Medical Research Future Fund grant to increase access to cancer clinical trials for older adults in regional Victoria.

The John Richards Centre for Rural Ageing Research at La Trobe University in collaboration with our partner organisation, Border Medical Oncology and Haematology, are offering two PhD research scholarships in the field of cancer care for older adults.

The projects are on offer for 2023. Project examples include technology-based enhanced supportive care in treatment decision making for older adults and exercise as prescription in cancer care for older adults.

The projects offered would suit candidates with a passion for any of the following:

  • exercise as prescription
  • enhanced supportive care
  • use of technology in clinical settings
  • quality of life
  • ageing
  • health in rural communities
  • implementation science

You will have the opportunity to connect to a network of regional cancer care organisations and collaborate with a diverse range of people. You will be a part of a team of dedicated, professional, and world-renowned researchers.

  • a La Trobe Research Scholarship for three and a half years, with a value of $33,500.00 per annum, to support your living costs (2023 rate)

Are you eligible to apply?
To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

To be eligible to apply for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • meet the entrance requirements for the proposed course
  • not be receiving another scholarship greater than 75 per cent of the stipend rate for the same purpose.

In selecting successful applicants, we prioritise applications from candidates who:

  • will be enrolled full-time and undertaking their research at La Trobe University Albury-Wodonga campus
  • have completed a Masters by Research or other significant body of research, such as an honours research thesis or lead authorship of a peer-reviewed publication, assessed at a La Trobe Masters by research standard of 75 or above

Please note: As part of your application you are not required to identify a potential supervisor - please indicate Dr Tshepo Rasekaba as the proposed supervisor on your application, and La Trobe will identify a supervisor during the application process.

  • The applicant will be required to attend an interview
  • The applicant will be required to have a police check and WWCC prior to commencing the position (to be paid for by applicant)


Selection process:

The University will carefully review your application and consider you for this scholarship.

If you are shortlisted for the scholarship and candidature, you will be invited to an interview with representatives of La Trobe and Border Medical Oncology and Haematology,.

The final decision will be made based on your application and interview. The successful candidate will be made an offer for candidature and scholarship.

You will be advised of an outcome in late 2022/ early 2023.
