PRIMARY DETAIL

Macquarie Law School is located in the Michael Kirby Building, a brand new, innovative, world-class building aimed at sparking collaboration between academics, students, research stakeholders, and the legal profession.
We are seeking applications from outstanding law academics to contribute to the teaching, research and engagement programmes in the School. We have current openings for Level B and Level C academics and encourage those with experience over a broad spectrum of discipline areas to apply. Research and teaching experience in core Priestley units is highly valued.

THE ROLE

Teaching and Research Academic

Teaching and Research Academic is a balanced academic role which will combine elements of research (40%), teaching (40%), leadership and service (20%). It is expected that the appointees will:

  • Teach and coordinate, at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels

  • Actively seek funding for, and contribute to, the research activities of Macquarie Law School (including interdisciplinary research)

  • Contribute to engagement and service activities on behalf of Macquarie University and Macquarie Law School

Teaching and Leadership Academic

The Teaching & Leadership Academic is a specialist role for Academic staff who dedicate their workload contribution to Teaching, Teaching Leadership, (70%) and Service (30%). Reporting to the Dean of School, you will be part of a growing Teaching and Leadership Team in the School. You will enhance the student experience through the delivery of outstanding teaching, focusing on pedagogic innovation, and governance and leadership of academic programmes. You will coordinate units within our accredited Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and Juris Doctor (LD) degrees, contribute to teaching and learning committees, and drive new initiatives and opportunities in these areas within the School.

Salary Package:
Annual Full-time base salary for the level of appointment, plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading:

  • Lecturer, Level B, from $115,787 - $136,995 p.a.

  • Senior Lecturer, Level C, from $141,376 - $162,584 p.a.

Selection Criteria for Lecturer (Level B) Applicants:

  • PhD in a relevant field of law

  • Demonstrated experience in quality research/scholarship, which may be evidenced by publications and/or success in attracting research support

  • Demonstrated success in teaching law at undergraduate and postgraduate level including the ability to develop innovative approaches to teaching and learning

  • Demonstrated capacity for the supervision of higher degree research students

  • Record of contributing, or capacity to contribute, to administration in a University or professional setting

  • Record of enhancing, or capacity to enhance, the University's reputation through engagement with relevant external stakeholders

Selection Criteria for Senior Lecturer (Level C) Applicants:

  • PhD in a relevant field of Law

  • Capacity for research leadership and contribution to research culture, activities, and outputs in a discipline of law

  • Demonstrated research quality and impact with an excellent track record of research publications in quality journals

  • Demonstrated ability to secure research funding

  • Demonstrated experience in effective undergraduate and postgraduate teaching including ability to develop and lead innovative approaches to teaching and learning

  • Demonstrable higher degree supervision philosophy and Record of higher degree supervision

  • Record of enhancing the University's reputation through engagement with relevant external stakeholders including legal professionals

  • Record of contributing through meaningful service in a university or professional setting
