About Property, Facilities and Development  

The Property, Facilities and Development (PFD) team works across all of Flinders’ places, spaces, and physical infrastructure. Working to four key areas: Strategic Planning and Sustainability; Capital Development; Customer and Site Services; and Strategic Projects, we are responsible for the planning, development, capital delivery, management, and maintenance of university spaces to ensure they are fit for purpose and support Flinders to deliver its strategic objectives.

The Facilities Team is responsible for delivering facility operations across the University to support the health, wellbeing, and physical safety of Flinders University students, staff, and visitors. This includes at our Flinders Living Precinct which accommodates over 500 students living on campus at University Hall and Deirdre Jordan Village.

About the Role 

The Operations Support Officer will carry out a broad range of responsive and planned general maintenance and support services at the Bedford Park Flinders Living Precinct and will assess and respond to unplanned and urgent tasks at the Bedford Park Campus as required. The role provides a fantastic opportunity to learn and develop on the job, grow your problem-solving skills, and prioritise tasks in a role where no two days are the same.

Some of the key responsibilities of the position are:

  • Respond and perform a variety of general maintenance tasks, repairs and manual handling functions to assist in the movement and transportation of furniture, equipment & suppliers as needed.

  • Provide support to Property, Facilities and Development personnel to support the delivery of Flinders Living’s student-related programs and events by bumping in/out furniture and equipment.

  • Support the Facilities Maintenance Officer with the initial assessment and prioritising of minor reactive tasks received through the University’s electronic Facility management systems, ServiceOne or StarRez.

  • Support the monitoring, procurement and delivery of supplies, appliances, and designated stock items to enable maintenance tasks, repairs, and replacements to occur at the University in a timely manner.

  • Ensure University approved service personnel and contractors undertaking building infrastructure maintenance tasks complete their work in alignment with the University’s contractor management procedures.

About You 

We are looking for a reliable and adaptable team player with a handyperson mindset and a can-do attitude.  You will have effective interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work productively and cooperatively with a broad range of stakeholders including colleagues, external contractors, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and experiential backgrounds. In addition, you will identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and be recognised as such by an appropriate Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander body.
