About the role

The Officer, Indigenous Student Education will work with the Ngarara Willim Centre and is a pivotal role to ensure engagement and support is provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Postgraduate and Vocational Education students.

The Indigenous Student Education Officer will achieve this by building strong purposeful links with communities and students and by working collaboratively and in partnership with internal and external stakeholders. This role supports the retention, progression and successful completion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

About You 


To be successful in this position, you’ll have as a minimum 


  • Knowledge of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and an understanding of community needs, particularly the educational and personal support needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build rapport with staff, students and the community and a demonstrated ability to manage sensitive matters in a professional and culturally appropriate manner.

  • Proven ability to access, to tailor and deliver information effectively to a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.

  • Proven strong organisational skills; sound analytical and problem solving skills, and a capacity to improve administration processes to improve efficiency. 

PD Officer Indigenous Student Education  

Desirable:  A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline and/or an equivalent level of expertise in providing support and services to tertiary students.


 

* This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under ‘special measures’ of section 12 of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply . Proof of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required.
