Neurogenetics Bioinformatician

• Full time, fixed term until 31 December 2024
• Opportunity for a Bioinformatician to join the School of Medical Sciences in the area of Neurogenetics  
• Base Salary starting from $105,350 – 118,390 + 17% superannuation

Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas.   

As a Research Fellow, you will work as part of an established multidisciplinary program to develop genome sequencing analysis resources and analyse genome sequencing from Parkinson’s disease patient-derived cell lines undergoing de-differentiation and re-differentiation into neural cell types.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• lead data processing, alignment and analysis using the cloud-based Illumina Connected Analytics platform
• contribute to the development of an analytical platform for genome sequencing from neurological patient-derived cell lines
• prepare data for presentation, reporting and publishing
• oversee protocol development, documentation and sharing
• adhere to university policies and practices that ensure a safe and harmonious work environment
• attend meetings, respond to emails and contribute to collegial discussion with other academics and industry representatives engaged in the project
• undertake other duties and contribute to other projects as required and appropriate for the classification level.

About you

• PhD in computer science/bioinformatics/data science  
• proven experience conducting original research and engaging in scholarly activity
• proven capability in bioinformatics and genome data analysis
• evidence of working in a team under direction and collaboration with external academic and industry groups
• skills in variant analysis, pipeline development, large dataset analysis, QC and validation and troubleshooting would be ideal
• a developing or established research profile evidenced by original, high-quality and independent research in the discipline or area of expertise.
