Overview
Leadership capability building for purpose led organisations
McKinsey is aware that capability building for leaders is critically important. In understanding the unique challenges faced by purpose led leaders, they know that these leaders tend to have fewer opportunities to develop their leadership capabilities compared to their for-profit peers.
So, McKinsey is offering a suite of one-day programs for leaders of purpose led organisations in order to provide the time and space for reflection, introduction to new tools, and peer connections to help lead successfully.
The Programs
These programs are offered on a fee-waived basis to leaders currently working in a purpose led organisation (i.e. non-profits, or social enterprises). Please note that this excludes government agencies, and political lobby groups.
Given there is some overlap in content across programs, it is recommended that leaders pick only one program to attend (whichever best suits your current role).
These programs on offer are:
INSPIRE for rising leaders - Helping rising leaders manage teams with resilience and self-awareness.
This program is designed for leaders who are responsible for teams or functions within an organisation, as well as for executives of smaller organisations. McKinsey is welcoming 10-15 participants per organisation.
Program Dates:
- Friday 3 September, 2021
- Friday 5 November, 2021

MISSION DELIVERY for seasoned leaders - Supporting you to grow strategic capacity to deliver your mission effectively and sustainably.
This program is designed for seasoned leaders (typically CEOs or senior executives) of established purpose led organisations responsible for overall organisation performance and delivery of mission. We welcome 3-5 participants per organisation.
Program Dates:
- Friday 30 July, 2021
- Friday 8 October, 2021

BOARD EFFECTIVENESS for purpose-led boards - (in pilot)
The program aims to help Board Directors reflect on how they operate and introduces tools to help Boards be more effective in adding value to the pursuit of their organisation’s mission. It is also a unique opportunity to collaborate and share experiences with Board Director peers across a diverse array of purpose-led organisations. McKinsey are looking for 30 Board Directors of for-purpose organisations to take part in an initial pilot to help them test and refine the focus of the Board Effectiveness program. Whilst the topics covered may be of most value to those in the earlier stages of their tenure as Board Directors or those from non-commercial backgrounds, they also welcome more experienced Board Directors seeking the chance to reflect and ‘refresh’, as well as broaden their non-profit network.
*Feedback from pilot participants will go directly towards shaping the focus and content of this program.
