About This Opportunity

We are looking to recruit two enthusiastic and self-motivated individuals to join our Biological Resources team in a Material Support Handler role. We have a vacancies available at:  

  • Translational Research Institute Biological Research Animal Facility (TRI BRF) based at Woolloongabba.

  • Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence Research Animal Facility (PACE) based at St Lucia.

You will support the facility by preparing animal cages, feed and water, completing room and equipment checks, reporting maintenance and liaising with trades staff, ordering general consumables and keeping inventories. You will also undertake material handling procedures and adhere to regulations and policies.

It is critical you have a strong team ethic and excellent verbal and written communication skills as you will provide facility support to the animal care team, ensuring supplies and equipment are ready as needed, cleaning and general equipment maintenance, record keeping and waste disposal.

Within the PACE Facility Animal care and husbandry is an additional requirement of the role, on an adhoc basis and all training will be provided. 

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Sterilization of cages, equipment and dry goods for use within the Research and Breeding wings.

  • Work as an effective team member, encouraging a team approach in line with the facility operations.

  • Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying heavy equipment and supplies.

  • Liaise with stores personnel to oversee food, bedding and general supply receipt and distribution.

  • Adhere to waste disposal practices, ensuring that all goods are disposed of as required.

  • Perform basic animal care and husbandry duties as required.

  • Participate in weekend and Public Holiday rosters.

These are full-time, fixed-term positions for up to 3 years.

At HEW Level 3, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $60,940.83 - $67,229.06, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $71,300.77 - $78,658.00 annually. 


About You

  • Completion of a Certificate III level qualification; or completion of year 12 or a cert II, with relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant work-related experience and/or education/training

  • Demonstrated experience with working effectively in a team environment.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Effective time management and organisation skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with wide variety of people including supervisors, team members and internal/external personnel (such as stores of maintenance staff) by telephone, email and in person.

  • Ability to prioritise own workload, work independently and meet deadlines.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment. 

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.

  • Medical Clearance: It is a condition of employment for this role you complete a satisfactory medical clearance(s), including disclosure of relevant medical history, to undertake such work without unreasonable risk to your health and safety. Additionally, you are required to fully comply with necessary ongoing health monitoring procedures and control measures.
