The Melbourne Entrepreneurial Centre (MEC) is the gateway to entrepreneurship at the University of Melbourne. The centre was formed in 2018 as part of a commitment to enrich the culture of entrepreneurship within the University and provide pathways to support the entrepreneurial leaders of the future.

Our aim is to offer students, alumni, academics, industry, government and the general public opportunities to engage with and move innovation forward to create real world impact

MEC is home to three entrepreneurial programs: the Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP), Translating Research at Melbourne (TRAM) and Melbourne InnovatEd. MEC also hosts a range of events and festivals in collaboration with our precinct partner, Melbourne Connect, including our Fireside Chat and Masterclass series.

About the Role
Are you passionate about startups and storytelling? Creating content and coming up with new ideas?

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator plays an important role in supporting the marketing and communications strategies of the Melbourne Entrepreneurial Centre (MEC) and its two flagship accelerator programs, the Melbourne Accelerator Program (MAP) and Translating Research at Melbourne (TRAM).

Reporting directly to the Marketing, Communications and Events Manager, you’ll play an important role in helping us continue to attract and support the most outstanding emerging entrepreneurial and research talent in the country to the programs delivered by MAP and TRAM. We’re not just about supporting innovators, but being innovative in the way we do it.

The role of the incumbent is to engage key audiences by contributing to the development and delivery of a variety of high-quality integrated communications across multiple platforms that support the operational objectives of each program.

The role is responsible for working across MEC, MAP and TRAM’s owned, earned and shared communications channels to support brand awareness, online engagement, and to drive recruitment for MEC, MAP and TRAM’s programs and events.

Responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to the execution of the communications strategy for MEC, MAP and TRAM.
  • Planning and developing content showcasing MAP and TRAM’s core programs, events and teams (both current and alumni) and MEC events.
  • Together with the Marketing, Communications and Events Manager, developing, implementing and supporting a social media architecture and strategy to enhance engagement and build brand awareness.

This position is part of a small, highly effective multi-disciplinary marketing, communications and events team responsible for a broad range of exciting activities and events. It is a full-time position based at the University’s new innovation precinct, Melbourne Connect, in the heart of Melbourne’s innovation district.

You are aware of journalistic standards and able to source, interview and produce news stories that support strategic objectives and identify and deliver various other newsworthy content across relevant channels. Your strong interpersonal abilities enable you to be an effective team player with the communication skills to consistently manage up and across the team. Your initiative allows you to work independently and be constantly on the look-out for improvements to existing ways of working. You are naturally able to recognise potential issues and respond quickly to resolve these and escalate where appropriate.

If you like your world filled with curiosity and creativity, and an environment where we have the courage to do things differently, this might be the place for you.

You will also have:

  • A degree in Communications, Marketing or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
