This role is based in our Financial Control & Compliance (FCC) department, Operations Division. The FCC function has accountability for the University-wide financial control environment and associated compliance policies and processes, including statutory financial reporting and external audit, controlled entity accounting and reporting, technical accounting advisory, infrastructure and asset accounting, and tax management and advisory. 

Why Your Role Matters: 
As the Manager, Tax & Advisory you will be a key member of the Finance team working to manage and support the Tax function here at the University of New South Wales and its controlled entities. You will bring your expertise in this area to provide tax guidance and resolve tax matters as needed ensuring the University continues to meet its tax obligations as well as its compliance and reporting obligations for GST, Payroll Tax, FBT and overseas tax matters. 

You will report to the Senior Manager, Tax & Advisory to provide a central authority on tax guidance at UNSW, leveraging an in-depth understanding of taxation legislation and requirements to provide, establish and maintain strong relationships with the business and finance areas, including our faculties and divisions. Acting as an advisor and performing research and analysis, you will also be identifying solutions and streamlining strategies that address tax issues as per the business needs of the University and ensure that UNSW continues to meet its compliance and reporting obligations.  

Who You Are: You will hold a tertiary qualification and CA or CPA qualification with a substantial background in tax (preferably indirect tax) alongside:  

  • Experience in the commercial and/or education sector (desired). 
  • Ability to resolve complex compliance issues in GST, FBT, and Payroll taxation. 
  • Extensive knowledge of legislative and statutory reporting and other requirements. 
  • Experience in analysing business requirements and developing strategic plans on taxation issues which best meet the current and future needs of a complex organisation. 
  • Previous experience in developing and implementing effective training and educational programs on taxation issues to staff at all levels. 
  • Well-developed communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills with experience in partnering with clients to develop solutions and outcomes.
