Are you passionate about driving sustainability initiatives and making a real impact on the environment and society? La Trobe University is looking for a dynamic and experienced Manager of Sustainability to help lead our efforts in creating a sustainable future for our campuses and community.

About the Role:

As the Manager of Sustainability, you will be at the forefront of developing and implementing sustainable strategies and policies that align with La Trobe’s vision. Collaborating with various business areas, you will develop and implement strategies for our campuses which address environmental and social challenges, ensuring that La Trobe remains at the cutting edge of sustainability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualise, develop, and review sustainability plans, policies and actions, identifying trends and opportunities to drive continuous improvement.
  • Work with academic departments and stakeholders to embed sustainability principles across campus operations .
  • Lead sustainability projects focused on water, waste, energy, and biodiversity, managing resources and timelines effectively.
  • Raise awareness and foster a culture of sustainability among students, staff, and external partners through effective communication, partnerships, projects, and behaviour change programs.
  • Facilitate continuous improvement in Environmental Management Systems to ensure best practice in operational and development outcomes. 

Your profile:

  • Applicants with a range of sustainability backgrounds, not just in the Education or Government sector, are encouraged to apply.
  • Extensive experience in the development of sustainability strategies and plans, and project management, with a proven track record of implementing initiatives of scale.
  • Strong project management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, build and sustain relationships across various levels.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with understanding of statutory reporting requirements.
  • Strong understanding of environmental management and other relevant legislation, and experience working with sustainability rating tools like Greenstar and BESS.
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all sustainability efforts.
  • Experience in team leadership, and people and consultant management.
