About the Role

Reporting to the Associate Director: Workplace Strategy, the newly created role of Manager: Safety and Wellbeing is a strategic enabler in implementing and continuously evolving the University’s WHS strategy. The position contributes to the delivery of UniSA’s people strategy by building and maintaining robust safety and wellbeing systems and a culture that supports staff and students to thrive in a competitive and rapidly evolving global environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • In consultation with relevant stakeholders, develop, implement and monitor safety, risk and assurance frameworks
  • Provide strategic analysis and advice on the development, implementation, and monitoring of WHS policies, plans and programs
  • Oversee the management of work injury claims and RTW as a self-insured employer under the RTW scheme
  • Monitor and ensure UniSA’s compliance with its obligations under legislation, regulated guidelines, relevant Australian standards, and government policy
  • Develop and lead a high performing safety and wellbeing team, fostering excellence and delivering quality services

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications in WHS&IM or equivalent skills and knowledge
  • Substantial experience in, and a detailed knowledge of, contemporary human resource strategies and the legislative frameworks for WHS & RTW
  • Demonstrated experience in WHS & RTW, including devolved management authority, WHS volunteers and representatives, committees, all of which will balance the rights and needs of both employer and employee
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to influence senior staff and lead and manage a team effectively
  • Proven experience in the provision of internal consultancy services on a range of high-level management issues
