The Opportunity

  • Collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to enhance research oversight
  • $138,171 - $146,613 (depending on experience) + 17% super + annual leave loading
  • Full-time (35 hrs week), permanent role | Hybrid/flexible working arrangements 

The Research Ethics & Compliance Support (RECS ) team coordinates committees and processes for research involving humans, animals, gene technology, radiation safety and research export controls and provides advice on legislative and other requirements in these areas. They also coordinate other research compliance areas such as the use of Schedule 4D, 8 and 9 substances, drone use, research export controls and biosecurity and leads the development of the policy environment for research ethics and compliance at the University.

The Manager, RECS plays an integral role providing leadership in the development and delivery of high-level animal ethics, research export controls, Scheduled Substances (S8/9 and S4D) and remotely piloted aircraft initiatives at UNSW, as well as oversight of the gene technology and radiation safety portfolios.  You’ll also make significant contributions to the strategic and operational plans, policies and procedures across the unit, supporting the Division of Research & Enterprise objectives.

The Manager, RECS reports to the Director of Research Ethics & Compliance Support and has three direct reports.

 About the successful applicant

You can demonstrate your deep knowledge of the legislation, codes and guidelines relating to research ethics and compliance, and management and oversight of ethics portfolios and Committees. Experience in animal research environment will be highly considered.

You’ll also have outstanding communication, influencing & negotiation skills and subject matter expertise to lead a small, dedicated team of officers, provide expert advice to requests for consultation including likely projects related to expected changes in export controls, and address non-compliance issues.
