About This Opportunity 

The position manages the efficient operation and promotion of the School’s research administration office, especially regarding pre- and post-award administration of research grants. The position supervises the Senior Research Administration Officer and works closely with the Deputy Head of School (Research) and School Manager to provide high level administrative and project management support to achieve desired outcomes for research in the School.

Key responsibilities will include: 

Strategic Support

  • Lead and manage the Research Administration Office within the School

  • Provide strategic support and advice to the Deputy Head of School (Research)

  • In consultation with the Deputy Head of School (Research), Head of School, and Research Committee, develop and maintain school policies, guidelines and procedures in relation to research activity and research administration within the School.

  • Maintain an expert understanding of the School’s research activities, its strategic objectives, as well as external research issues including University and external initiatives.

  • Maintain an expert understanding of research funding issues to maximise the take-up of opportunities, including expertise in the rules and procedures applicable to external funding agencies.

  • Develop initiatives to promote the School’s research output and to assist researchers to target appropriate funding schemes.

Research Administration

  • Advise and assist staff with grant applications & develop processes to maintain accurate records of grant application activity to enable tracking and internal reporting.

  • Manage the research administration team and processes.

  • Support researchers with budgeting and ethical clearance.

  • Coordinate funding promotion and research events.

  • Oversee grant sign-offs and seminar coordination.

  • Assist with Research Committee tasks and website maintenance.

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Analyse research performance and assist with budget administration.

  • Participate in research-related networks and events.

This is a full-time 100%  fixed-term position from 25th March 2024 through to 16th August 2024

At HEW level 7, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $96,649.64 - $105,244.58  plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $113,080.08 - $123,136.15 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.


About You  

  • A degree plus at least four (4) years subsequent relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training.

  • Experience in an area of research administration in a university.

  • Knowledge and understanding of policies and procedures relating to research and general administration in the tertiary education sector and external funding agencies, or the ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge.

  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • High level analytical, interpretative and research skills including database administration and compilation of statistical information relevant to research.

  • Demonstrated ability to set own priorities, monitor work processes, meet regular deadlines, and work both independently and collaboratively as part of a busy team.

  • High level of interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, able to exercise tact and good judgment, and to negotiate with a range of individuals including senior staff of the University.

  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high-quality customer service.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the tertiary research environment and of the processes involved in the publication of academic journals, including reporting requirements.
