The Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery (Sydney Nursing School) is highly regarded nationally and internationally for academic excellence, quality teaching and innovative research. We are seeking a suitably qualified Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing who is a talented educator with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, education and research related to mental health. In this position you will make a significant contribution to high-quality teaching and learning practices, curriculum design and evaluation (at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level), which meet the University’s expectations and standards for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer.  You will be on a trajectory towards national (Lecturer) and international (Senior Lecturer) recognition for your research, and will continue to build on your research contribution, expertise and impact.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake independent teaching in Mental Health Nursing

  • engage in high quality teaching and learning experiences in Mental Health Nursing at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level

  • build and maintain reputation for academic excellence in the area of Mental Health Nursing

  • design, coordinate and deliver quality educational units of study and experiences that support student needs and meet accredited curriculum requirements

  • lead teaching activities with other staff

  • further develop a research profile by undertaking original research within the discipline or area of expertise

  • undertake HDR supervision (Senior Lecturer) if appropriate (Lecturer)

  • contribute to the research and administration activities of the discipline.

About you

  • registered nurse with AHPRA

  • a deep and broad experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in and development of effective and contemporary pedagogical practices that engage students in developing critical understanding and application of mental health nursing practice

  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives

  • a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector

  • demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums

  • experience in teaching and delivering curricula to nurses and/or other health disciplines

  • a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions and stakeholders

  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities.

Lecturer

  • PhD or working towards completion of a PhD in an academic field relevant to nursing

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or related field

  • developing a national profile with evidence in high quality publications and applications for competitive research grants.

Senior Lecturer

  • PhD in an academic field relevant to nursing

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or related field

  • a national and developing international reputation for research in an area related to Nursing and University research priorities and meets expectations in line with standards for Level C

  • developing international research networks and collaborations with evidence in high quality publications and successful competitive research grants

  • demonstrable leadership in high quality teaching (at undergraduate, honours, and/or postgraduate levels) in Mental Health Nursing.
