About the team

This position sits with the team that underpins training and learning across the broad Field of Education of “Natural, Agricultural and Social Sciences” and may include disciplines such as animal biology, plant biology, archaeology, geography and the characterisation/analysis of environmental materials, including the curation of associated resources. This team supports teaching both on and off campus which may include fieldwork.

About the opportunity

You will be responsible for providing a high level of discipline specific technical expertise and management to support academic staff, technical staff and students with any practical activities or research productivity.

You will manage a team of teaching technicians to ensure effective and high quality operations are delivered within specified timelines and budget, liaising with Laboratory Supervisors, Unit Coordinators and key academic and professional staff. You will work closely with the Manager (Training and Learning Facilities) to develop and implement policies and procedures to support safe practices of work.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Relevant tertiary or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Extensive relevant technical experience at an appropriate level
  • Extensive experience engaging various internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to consult and negotiate with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently, show initiative and manage diverse teams
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures for the administration of infrastructure and Occupational Health & Safety

This position will require you to hold a current ‘C’ class manual driver’s license and the ability to fit the physical requirements of the position. Working with animals and some after-hours and weekend work may be required.
