About Business Services

Our Business Services function provides a full range of class leading information technology, facilities management, finance, HR and health and safety services to all operating entities of the University.

Within Business Services, the Health and Safety (HS) team provides advisory and support services across the organisation and is responsible for facilitation, coordination and implementation of University and divisional procedures. We not only want to ensure a healthy and safe environment but strive to make health and safety easy to understand and simply integrated in everyone’s day to day activities.

About the role

Working in conjunction with the Health and Safety Leadership Team and Business Partners, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing the customer service interface for our Health & Safety systems. You will lead the development and implementation of safety systems that reduce risks for the University community and will promote continuous improvement of safety results.

In this role, you will lead, mentor and motivate your team to deliver excellent customer service. You will identify and remove bottlenecks to increase efficiencies and will function as a role model of our results-driven, solution-oriented team culture where the client is at the centre of what we do.

You will further engage with a wide variety of key stakeholder and lead and facilitate trainings and coaching to increase skills, knowledge and awareness of safety system requirements, legislation and obligations.

Working collaboratively with other team members and stakeholders, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing clear and positive leadership ensuring focus on key priorities, effective resource allocation and collaboration, and a high-performance team environment
  • Leading the development and implementation of effective systems and work processes for the provision of specialist health and safety services
  • Leading the development and implementation of effective service metrics, monitoring and management reporting at organisational and divisional level for specialist health and safety services
  • Leading a team of professional subject matter experts to identify synergies with related services in addition to service and business improvement opportunities

About you

To be successful in this role, you will be a value-driven people leader with a strong customer service orientation and a commercial mindset. You will have demonstrated stakeholder management experience, including the ability to work with, and influence, multiple stakeholders at all levels to ensure a ‘safety first’ culture. Thanks to your can-do attitude and excellent interpersonal, you build positive and productive relationships across different business areas.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver high impact service delivery from a team of health and safety professionals.
  • Demonstrated high level consultation, influencing and negotiation skills with stakeholders at different levels.
  • High level conceptual, analytical, problem solving and lateral thinking skills with the ability to use and/or integrate specific bodies of knowledge to develop innovative solutions.
  • Demonstrated high level understanding and experience in business improvement.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and to act as a team member, to ensure that the best possible outcomes are identified and implemented in an environment with competing demands.
