  • Salary range: $99,510-$112,290 per annum (plus superannuation)

The University of South Australia’s multi-million dollar Future Industries Institute (FII) focuses on building knowledge and capacity in core future industries and develops the University’s internationally competitive research capacity across four key strands: Minerals and resources engineering, Energy and advanced manufacturing, Environmental science and engineering, and Biomaterials engineering and nanomedicine. It’s an exciting time to join FII in this key management and leadership role supporting a newly appointed Director as the Institute transitions into the UniSA STEM academic unit.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director: Future Industries Institute (FII), the position provides high level management and executive support to the Director: FII in the development and implementation of business growth strategies for the Institute. This is a strategic management and prominent leadership position and is accountable for the successful delivery and management of a diverse range of professional business services in the Institute.

Core Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the implementation and ongoing development of the Institute’s strategic plan, ensuring it integrates and aligns with University and Academic Unit plans and strategic objectives
  • Manage the Institute’s financial (income and expenditure) and physical resources including the development of the Institute’s financial forecasts, budgets and plans to achieve financial sustainability in the medium to long term
  • Lead the creation of strong networks and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Manage the Institute’s research and consultancy projects, including but not limited to, negotiation of contractual terms, drafting agreements in collaboration with relevant units, costing projects and overseeing the execution of such contracts
  • Maintain current knowledge of national research priorities and developments, and provide innovative and business focused advice and strategies to the Institute Management Group
  • Lead, mentor and manage a small team, providing positive performance management and development support

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Tertiary qualifications and experience in management or business or equivalent demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills in management in a complex environment
  • Demonstrated high level leadership and people management skills, including developing, coaching and motivating staff
  • Proven ability to implement strategies to achieve corporate and local objectives, and extensive experience in the application of business improvement principles in response to the changing research environment
  • Highly developed negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
