About the team  

The role of Finance is to support the appropriate stewardship of the University’s finance through the provision of a strategic financial advice, establishment of a financial management framework, financial management tools, procurement, management of the University’s Investment and Endowment portfolio, as well as financial oversight and accountability for finance and human resources administrative and transactional operations.

Finance undertakes this role through three core pillars: Financial Compliance, Financial Performance and Procurement.

About the opportunity  

You will lead the University’s annual consolidated financial statements, statutory and internal reporting requirements, fixed asset register, general ledger, taxation and general financial compliance.

You will also ensure continuous improvement and best practices of the University financial reporting models and drive collaboration within Finance to contribute to the overall commitment of Financial Services to deliver service excellence.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate: 

  • A degree or other relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, business or related field of study or demonstrated equivalent competency
  • Full professional membership of a recognised Australian accounting body and a minimum of 10 years relevant experience
  • Extensive experience in statutory financial reporting and knowledge of financial legislation and accounting best practice standards including knowledge of Australian Accounting standards
  • Extensive experience with management and financial accounting systems in an environment involving multiple funding arrangements
  • Substantial experience in strategic and financial planning, financial analysis, budgeting, management and international reporting and financial policy development to meet statutory obligations and best practice accounting standards
  • Proven record in conducting investigations and providing financially and managerially sound recommendations on business activities
  • Demonstrated experience in interacting and providing specialist written and verbal advice to customers and senior management on financial management reporting
  • Demonstrated skills in leading and managing people in the workplace, building productive and cooperative teams and creating effective communication and consultation processes
