About the Role
Working as part of the Intellectual Property and Commercialisation team to accelerate the translation of the University's innovation, the Manager, Commercialisation & New Ventures is responsible for identification, assessment and curation of commercialisation initiatives with a focus on identification of potential new ventures, development of business plans and venture models, and supporting teams to establish investible opportunities, initially linked towards pre-seed and seed investment.
This will include providing expert advice, instruction and coaching to researchers on establishing potential venture models and commercialisation matters.
About You
To be successful in this position, you'll have:
- High level understanding and extensive experience in commercialisation including New Venture creation, licensing, research translation and early stage/pre-seed investment development.
- Track record in venture development, engagement with the investment community and negotiating commercial and legal arrangements for commercialisation.
- Proven ability and networks to support market analysis of commercialisation opportunities.
- High level interpersonal communication and influencing skills, including the ability to consult with senior executives, external bodies, negotiate agreed directions, outcomes and targets within a collaborative environment in a complex organisation.
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple assignments, and efficiently manage multiple requests for information and assistance, and to work under pressure of various deadlines.
- Highly developed analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills including the ability to develop innovative strategies that lead to improved outcomes in the delivery of research translation and establishment of New Ventures.
- Proven experience of leading, developing and implementing projects requiring extensive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated history of behaviour aligned to the RMIT values, leadership capabilities and professional capability framework.

The RMIT x Breakthrough Victoria Pre-Seed Fund
The RMIT x Breakthrough Victoria Pre-Seed Fund, (the Fund) is part of the skills and funding support provided by RMIT to accelerate translation of our research and innovation.
The Fund has been established in partnership with Breakthrough Victoria. Breakthrough Victoria Pty Ltd has been established to manage the Victorian Government's landmark $2 billion Breakthrough Victoria Fund.
The Fund between RMIT and Breakthrough Victoria will provide funding for early-stage research, ideas and new technologies and will facilitate access to university networks and mentoring to create seed-fund-ready companies. Up to 20% of this funding can be invested into social purpose ventures.
The resources will be dedicated to the local start-up ecosystem to develop homegrown talents. The fund will drive the commercialisation of intellectual property (IP) by providing the right conditions for the growth of existing businesses and innovation precincts.
