About This Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Librarian to deliver information services to Fryer Library clients, support teaching, learning and research through reference services and object-based learning classes, and promote Fryer Library services and collections through events, stories and displays/exhibitions. The position involves working closely with academic areas, other UQ cultural institutions, and other teams within the Library, particularly the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services and Collections team.
Key responsibilities include:
Provide a high-quality information service to clients via a range of communication methods such as online, telephone, and in-person consultations.
Develop and deliver information sessions, tours, and object-based learning classes.
Engage target audiences and promote Fryer Library services and collections through multiple channels including on-campus events, displays and exhibitions; print and online publications; social media; and other engagement activities.
Administer complex copyright, licensing and access protocols in the delivery of client information services.
Mentor and/or supervise the work of other library staff as required.
Co-ordinate and participate in University Committees and Library projects as required.
Contribute to arrangement and description using established archival procedures and standards.
Applicants should note this role primarily involves on-campus attendance due to the nature of duties and responsibilities involved. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
About You
You will be an experienced, flexible, and tech-savvy information professional with special collections experience and a client-centred approach.
Essential:
A degree in librarianship, archival practice, or museum studies with subsequent relevant experience, or expertise in special collections, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and/or training.
Excellent client service skills and demonstrated ability to provide advanced information assistance through a variety of channels.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with academic and library staff in designing and delivering object based learning classes, identifying relevant supporting resources within Fryer Library.
Experience applying visual and written communication skills to engage audiences with library services and collections through a variety of channels.
Experience interpreting and applying complex copyright, licensing and access protocols for special collections, including communicating requirements to donors and clients.
Demonstrated ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues, customers and donors through high level communication (including negotiation), interpersonal, customer service and teamwork skills.
Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise own workloads, work independently, meet deadlines, and lead and motivate other staff to achieve team goals.
Demonstrated experience using relevant technologies for management and discovery of special collections, ideally in an academic context,
Experience contributing to the arrangement and description of special collections.
Desirable:
Experience or interest in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and collections would be highly regarded.
Qualifications and/or an interest in the main collecting areas of Fryer Library, including Australian literature, politics, architecture, Indigenous affairs and Queensland history.
The successful candidate must have full Australian work rights and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks.
