The University of Adelaide Enterprise Agreement 2017-2021 will apply to a successful candidate’s employment at the University.  The University recently applied for a temporary variation to its Enterprise Agreement.  Please be advised that the salary range, along with other conditions associated with this position, may change in accordance with the variation to the Enterprise Agreement.

Continuing role available immediately

Commercially focused role for a lawyer looking to make their mark in an established and well-respected University legal team.

As part of its strategic plan the University has a focus on research which has applications to defence, including in cyber security, artificial intelligence, machine learning and big data.

The Legal Counsel (Defence and Security) supports these strategic initiatives as well as the University’s strategic partnerships with defence and associated industries, and the University’s compliance with relevant legislation (such as the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme Act, the Foreign Interference Guidelines, and the Defence Trade Controls Act).

As part of the Legal & Risk Branch, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in wider University legal, risk and compliance issues.

To be successful you will need:

  • Extensive post-qualification experience in a law firm or in-house legal role.
  • Demonstrated experience in commercial law including drafting and advising on contracts.
  • Experience in advising on intellectual property matters and transacting with private and government enterprises in Defence and associated industries.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme Act, the Foreign Interference Guidelines, the Defence Trade Controls Act and associated legislation.
  • Sound understanding of compliance and risk frameworks.
